is a multi-faceted artist: songwriter, singer, composer, painter, video artist, virtual reality creator.
E.J. Gold was born in New York City in 1941. As the son of H.L. Gold, the famous editor of Galaxy Science Fiction magazine, he grew up surrounded by some of the greatest science fiction writers of this century, as well as artists and intellectuals, the Who’s Who in the Arts in America of the 40’s and 50’s: Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein, Forest J Ackerman, Orson Welles, Bruce Elliott, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Friday night card players; Pete Seeger was his music teacher at Downtown Community School under the direction of Norman Studer.

With such great acquaintances Gold wasted no time in manifesting his ability to learn about everything that was available to him in the arts and sciences — music, singing, dance, art, sculpture, theatre, literature, language, mathematics, magic, mime, and of course the writing trade from his father; reading through the Galaxy slush pile for his father by the time he was twelve.
After settling in Los Angeles, Gold found himself in the middle of the entertainment industry where he worked in many capacities under the most diversified titles from sound engineer and gofer, to Mr. Fix-it, and general consultant on a remarkable number of successful programs, in animation and on movies. He also did band management, band photography and set photography.

Some of Gold's photo credits between 1966 and 1969 include Harry Nilsson, The Family Tree, the Jefferson Airplane, Don & the Good Times, and the Monkees. During this period he also spent time at Columbia Recording Studios with the Turtles, Paul Revere and the Raiders. In 1969, he appeared on Hunt- ley/Brinkley and Walter Cronkite, after being interviewed several times by Joe Pyne and Richard Dawson on Tempo. A member of the California Nine, a guerrilla artist group of the sixties, Gold was recognized for his invention of soft and breathing sculptures and widely sought after and collected. In the eighties he co-founded the Grass Valley Graphics Group and the School of Reductionism. His art is collected internationally in Norway, Canada, Spain, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Australia. Some of Gold's work can be found in the White House Solarium.
In 1992 Gold resurrected Galaxy Magazine as a second generation editor. In this new format Galaxy leapt onto the web and is now strictly a webzine turned towards the future.
In addition to all this, Gold is an experimental musician and composer with a long list of creations to his credit. He uses sound as a vehicle for exploring inner spaces. His musical statements blend jazz and classical styles, handling dissonance, sophisticated temporal elements and motivic interplay with elegance, inventiveness, and humor.
